Born in Santa Monica, California, Billy Lawe started training at the Broadmoor Skating Club in the late seventies. After winning the Midwestern junior men's title, he made his national debut at the 1983 U.S. Championships in Pittsburgh, placing tenth. The following year in Salt Lake City, he lept all the way to first, winning the U.S. junior men's title. Two years later in Lake Placid, he finished second in the U.S. Collegiate Championships. He later toured with Walt Disney's World on Ice and represented America twice at the World Professional Championships in Jaca, Spain. He passed away in Colorado Springs on March 26, 1995 at the age of thirty-one, leaving behind his partner Robert Wagenhoffer.
