*Due to a scandal concerning amateurism, Marika Kilius and Hans-Jürgen Bäumler were stripped of their Olympic silver medals and Debbi Wilkes and Guy Revell were elevated to silver and Vivian and Ronald Joseph awarded the bronze. Confusion surrounding the results swirled for years until November 2014, when the International Olympic Committee stated that both the Germans and Canadians were silver medallists and the Americans were bronze medallists.
**A judging scandal led the IOC to take the unprecedented step of awarding Jamie Salé and David Pelletier, who were originally placed second, a pair of gold medals. Unlike in 1964 when Marika Kilius and Hans-Jürgen Bäumler were stripped of their silver medals, Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao were not moved up from second to third. Had they have been, the bronze would have been awarded to Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin.
***As a result of a positive doping test of one of the skaters on the winning (Olympic Athletes From) Russia in the team event, a gold medal was not awarded in the team event. Consequences to Russian skaters who won medals at the Beijing Games are unknown at this time.

***Kamila Valieva, a member of the the Olympic Athletes From Russia team, failed a doping test. Medals were not awarded at the 2022 Winter Olympics. An appeal from Team Canada, who finished fourth, was unsuccessful. The "Olympic Athletes From Russi"a team was not disqualified, nor were the results of the women's competition in the team event recalculated. Over two years later, during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, the final results were announced, with the United States and Japan elevated to silver and bronze and the "Olympic Athletes from Russia" team third. At the time of the announcement, Russian athletes were banned from competing in ISU Championships.
The World Championships were not held from 1915 to 1921 and 1940 to 1946 due to conditions surrounding The Great War and World War II. The 1961 World Championships were cancelled due to the tragic Sabena Flight 548 crash that killed the entire U.S. skating team. The 2020 World Championships were cancelled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

*The Great International Skating Tournament in Vienna in 1882 was the first recognized large-scale international figure skating competition. Though not recognized historically as a World Championship, it was an important precursor to the ISU's official World Championships that would follow.
**Though not recognized historically as a World Championship, an important international competition staged in Russia in 1890 to commemorate the founding of the Neva Skating Association (later the St. Petersburg Society Of Ice Skating Amateurs) was billed as a World Championship at the time it was held. This event was an important precursor to the ISU's official World Championships that would follow. There were three separate categories: compulsory figures (won by Rubenstein), special figures (won by Lebedeff) and free skating (a tie between Catani and Lebedeff).
***Prior to 1906 (women's) and 1908 (pairs), women's and pairs competitions were irregularly held in conjunction with the World Championships for men and termed International Championships. Though the winners of these events weren't of any less importance than the winners of the men's events, they weren't recognized historically by the ISU as official World Champions in their respective disciplines.
****As was the case with several women's and pairs events held in conjunction with the World Championships during the Edwardian Era, the 1950 and 1951 ice dance events were held in conjunction with the World Championships and termed International Ice Dance Competitions.
The table below lists winners of the senior events at the Canadian Championships from their origins in the Edwardian era to modern times. National titles have of course been won in several other disciplines, including fours skating, Waltz and Tenstep (precursors to the modern ice dance event) and synchronized skating, but only singles, pairs and ice dancing have been included in this table for brevity's sake. You can find a full listing of medallists and winners on Skate Canada's website.
